Full description

The transparent front / coloured back press-to-close pouch combines a background that can be matched to the brand with visible contents and a resealable design. It provides a flat packaging format for larger pack sizes used on several occasions. The custom colour can make the product stand out, and the press-to-close closure makes it easier to handle the remaining portion. We design the coloured appearance together with the properties of the contents and the packaging process.

Product variants identified by colour

The background colour can be used to give members of a product family a common identity while keeping the variants easy to distinguish. The colour system should be developed together with the product name and the graphic markings. Thanks to the transparent front, the buyer can also see the contents directly, so the appearance of the pack also depends on the colour of the contents. In our consultation, we examine which background sets off the goods well and how much area should remain clear. The colour, the product and the print form a common look on the filled pouch.

The opened pack also stays in use

The press-to-close closure allows the pouch to be closed again and again, so we extend the sizing to its condition during use. The contents decrease as they are consumed and the shape of the pack changes, while the closure must remain easily accessible. The top section should be designed so that there is room for dispensing and clean resealing. Pieces that get between the closure profiles must be removed, and then the full width pressed together. Information on storage after opening must be defined based on the characteristics of the product, in line with the practical function of the press-to-close closure.

A protective structure behind the coloured exterior

The pouch can be made for a more moderate aroma barrier requirement, primarily for mechanical protection, or with an aroma barrier structure. With a suitable complete pack, the latter design can also be planned for vacuum and modified atmosphere processes. We therefore make the colour choice in coordination with the material selection. In addition to the front, the back and the seals, the packaging equipment and the condition of the contents are also part of the assessment. After opening, resealing does not restore the previous vacuum or modified atmosphere; further use must be designed accordingly.

A graphic system for flat display

The press-to-close pillow pouch is a format without a gusset, recommended for placement lying flat. When designing the logo and custom artwork, we therefore take the side visible on the counter or shelf as the basis. In addition to the background colour, the order of the information and the contrast of the text are also decisive. Behind lettering on the transparent surface, the colour of the product appears, which must be taken into account when checking the design. The handling area left near the press-to-close closure and the seal edges also shape the position of the print. With several variants, an identical layout can help buyers navigate the product family.

For resealable packaging with a custom background, we review the brand colours and the characteristics of the product together. The transparent front / coloured back press-to-close pouch can thus give the product a consistent appearance tailored to the planned pack size and to how buyers use it.
