Breathable stand-up pouch

The breathable stand-up pouch offers transparent packaging for the upright display of washed, peeled and cut vegetables and fruit. The breathable material chosen for plant products is complemented by the stand-up format, so the contents can also be displayed upright on the counter or shelf. We design this version for smaller portions, without resealing. When choosing the material and size, we take into account the characteristics of the produce, its preparation and its storage conditions together.

A structure matched to fresh produce

When packing vegetables and fruit, the respiration of the produce must be taken into account. The gas permeability properties of the material must be matched to the specific product and the quantity filled. The processing method is also important: whole, peeled and cut produce can represent different starting conditions. The conditions that develop inside the pack are also affected by the temperature and the internal space. Therefore, when discussing the breathable stand-up pouch, in addition to the exact name of the produce, we also review the preparation and packaging process and assess the application based on the finished pack.

The gusset and the contents shape the pack together

An upright appearance requires the bottom section of the pouch and the distribution of the product to be in harmony. The size, shape and arrangement of the cut contents determine how well they fill the internal space. It is therefore worth trying the right pouch size with real produce, in the desired quantity. The sample pack shows how the gusset opens, what shape the front takes and how much room remains for the top seal. The contents must fit comfortably, while the appearance and handling of the finished pack are matched to the planned display.

From preparation to the sealed pack

The condition of the product after washing and cutting must be handled in coordination with the packing operation. Surface moisture, filling accuracy and the cleanliness of the seal area can all affect sealing. The top section of the pouch must be sized so that the product does not get into the seal position. This version is made without a press-to-close closure, so the pack size should be designed in a portion suited to the planned opening and use. The storage and handling regime must be defined for the specific produce, in line with the material selection and the results of examining the sealed pack.

Transparent surface on the upright pack

Through the transparent pouch, the buyer can see how the produce has been cut, its colours and how the pack is made up. With a custom logo and artwork, the pack can also be adapted to the grower's or brand's identity. We design the print so that, alongside the important information, there is still room to show the produce. Folds can form at the bottom and top of the upright pack, so the product name and handling information must be placed on clearly visible surfaces. It is also worth viewing the filled pouch in its position on the shelf.
