Full description

The paper pillow pouch offers a brown paper look for products where natural-looking packaging and mechanical protection come to the fore. Its sealable version provides a closable sales unit, and the simple, flat format can be complemented with artwork that suits the product. We recommend this version for contents that contain no fat and do not require an aroma barrier. To make the right choice, the composition of the product must be taken into account alongside the aesthetic concept.

Contents that suit the paper surface

The brown paper exterior goes well with an understated, tactile look. With this version, however, the fat content of the contents is essential: a fatty ingredient can cause visible stains on the paper, so a different material structure must be chosen for such products. The pouch is not an aroma barrier, so it should be used for items whose protection requirements are compatible with this. We test suitability with the actual contents. In addition to knowing the ingredients, the condition at the time of packing and the planned storage also help the decision.

Flat pack size, orderly appearance

The pillow pouch is a format without a gusset, sealed on two or three sides. It can be sized well for smaller packaging units and is typically placed lying flat on the counter or in the outer pack. This version has no press-to-close closure, so consumer use after opening must also be thought through. It is advisable to choose a portion that suits the expected use and to adapt the proportions of the pouch accordingly. The right internal space is not only about fitting the contents in: it makes filling easier, provides room for sealing and helps give the finished pack an orderly shape.

Sealable version for packing

The pouch can be heat-sealed, so it is worth designing the filling process and the use of the sealing equipment together. The seal area must be kept free and clean, and the contents must not get into the seal line. We assess the mechanical role of the film and the seals based on the load on the finished pack: the weight of the product, the shape of protruding parts and the space taken up in the outer carton all count. A paper look does not mean the same load capacity under all conditions, so when sizing, we review the route of the pack from filling to handover to the buyer.

Branding designed for a brown base

A custom logo and artwork can also be requested for the pouch. The base colour of the paper is part of how the print looks, so contrast and legibility must be chosen for this surface. Even with understated artwork, the product name and variant should remain clear. We develop the front layout based on the shape of the filled pouch, the seals running along the edges and the planned opening point. The material effect of the paper surface can thus be a deliberate part of the pack's appearance, while the information remains easy to read.

The paper pillow pouch can be a good starting point if you are looking for a brown paper look for a product of suitable composition. Knowing the contents and the desired pack size, we design the size, the seal position and the artwork together. In this way, the appearance and use of the packaging are aligned with the actual needs of the product.
