The paper stand-up pouch gives a brown paper look to products displayed upright. Its sealable design serves to make sealed packs, and the gusset helps with display on the shelf or counter. We recommend it for smaller product units where mechanical protection and external appearance are the main considerations. This version is not an aroma barrier and is intended for contents that contain no fat, because fatty ingredients can leave stains on the paper.

Paper look with the right contents

The brown exterior can be a branding element in its own right: its warm tone and paper effect give the pack character. At the same time, we base the material selection on the composition of the product. The contents must be compatible with the absence of an aroma barrier and with a paper surface that is sensitive to fat. For proper use, it is therefore important to know the ingredients, the condition of the product when packed and the storage environment. If another protective property is also needed, it must be defined separately when the pouch is chosen. The paper look can thus be paired with a technical design that suits the product.

Upright format for smaller pack sizes

The gusset provides room for the product at the bottom of the filled pouch and allows an upright display. We determine the right size based on the volume, shape and distribution of the contents. The position of the pack is also affected by how well the product fills the bottom section, so it is advisable to check the planned portion in a sample pouch. This shows how the front takes shape, how much room remains for the seal and what proportions the finished pack has on the shelf. For sizing the outer carton, it is also worth starting from the actual shape of the filled, sealed pouch.

Sealable version for daily packing

The top seal must be made in a way that suits the chosen material and the packaging equipment. The contents must not get onto the sealing surface, and the pouch should not be filled so much that tension arises at the seal. We assess the mechanical role of the side seals together with the load on the finished pack. Protruding parts, hard product pieces or movement inside the carton can cause local stress, so coordinating size and placement is also important. It is advisable to think through how the pack will be opened and the portion used when the pack size is designed.

Artwork on the brown surface

A logo and your own artwork can also be printed on the paper stand-up pouch. With an upright presentation, the brand and product name can be placed well on the front surface, but suitable contrast must be chosen for the brown base. The opening of the gusset and the sealing of the top change the proportions of the artwork as seen flat, so we also check the design on the finished pack. Important lettering must remain legible when the pack stands on the shelf, and the seal edges should not interrupt the text. The material effect of the paper and the print together can create an understated, consistent identity.
