PET tray with tamper-evident closure
Crystal-clear PET tray with tamper-evident closure (once filled and closed, the tray cannot be opened without breaking it)
Full description
The PET tray with tamper-evident closure provides transparent, rigid packaging for products where a visible indication of first opening is important. To open the lid, the closing element must be broken, so customers can check the condition of the pack. At the same time, the clear, transparent appearance makes the contents easy to see. This version can be a good choice for retail sale of smaller portions when the product does not require vacuum or modified atmosphere packaging.
Visible evidence of first opening
The tamper-evident closure is part of the tray's closing system, and its condition changes when it is first opened. The function works well when the filled pack is properly closed and it is clear to the customer where the opening element is. When designing the product's appearance, the relationship between lid and label must therefore also be considered. The opening point should be left free and easily accessible. The tamper-evident closure helps make opening detectable; we tailor the design of the whole pack to this task.
A transparent pack for smaller portions
The glossy, transparent surface of the PET tray makes it possible to present the product directly. With smaller-volume packs, the proportion of the portion and its arrangement are especially important for appearance. The tray should be chosen with the actual product, making sure that enough space remains under the lid. The contents should neither obstruct closing nor put pressure on the opening element. For products sold chilled, the pack design must also be matched to the planned chilling and storage conditions.
Labelling that takes the closure into account
The tray can be labelled before filling, which, with good work organisation, can simplify tasks after portioning. Thanks to the built-in tamper-evident closure, no wrap-around security label is needed in itself to indicate opening. The label's job can thus be to present the branding and product data clearly. During design, it must be checked whether the information remains legible on the shelf and whether the label covers the opening point. It is also advisable to leave part of the transparent surface visible.
Filling, closing and handover
In daily packing, a clean rim and a full fit of the lid form the basis of the closure. It is worth building a check of the tamper-evident closure into the workflow before the pack goes into the outer box. For liquid products, the behaviour of the specific tray with regard to leakage must also be examined. The transport packaging should protect the lid and opening element from accidental damage. This way, the condition of the pack reaching the customer stays consistent with the purpose of the tamper-evident function.
When planning a PET tray with tamper-evident closure, please tell us the product to be filled, the required portion and the labelling method. Our colleagues will help you coordinate the tray size, the lid design and the packaging workflow. A well-chosen version both presents the product and gives the customer an easily checked indication of first opening.
