Silver side-gusseted pouch
100 pcs aroma and light barrier pouches for storing “heavy” products upright
Full description
The silver side-gusseted pouch is a well-known pack format for aromatic products, including coffee. The opaque silver surface provides light protection, and the side gussets shape the depth of the pack to suit the fill. With the right structure, it can also be chosen for aroma and gas barrier requirements and for vacuum or modified atmosphere packaging. Its appearance and technical design work together when we define the proportions, material and seal of the pouch for the specific product.
An aromatic product in a sealed, opaque surface
It is not possible to see inside the silver pouch, so in a retail environment exposed to light, the opaque surface is also part of product protection. For coffee or other fills with a characteristic aroma, preserving aromas requires the material structure and the seals to work together. Before choosing, it is worth clarifying in what condition the product goes into the pouch, what storage it requires and whether gas is released after packing. On this basis, the required barrier and the packaging process to be used can be agreed. The different volumes of whole bean and ground coffee also need particular attention when choosing the pouch size.
A side-gusseted shape around the fill
The side folds open out when the pouch is filled. The gusset depth therefore affects both the volume and the proportions visible on the shelf. With a fill of the right weight and distribution, the pouch can stand upright, and the top can be shaped according to the chosen closure. During vacuum packing, the pack draws in around the contents, so the surface and shape of the pouch can differ from a loosely filled version. It is worth assessing both appearances with real product if several packaging methods are being considered when designing the pack.
A seal for the packaging method
The back seal and the top seal together form the finished pack. The sealing area must be kept clean, and an even seal must be checked where the gussets meet. The pack size of this format without a press-to-close zip should be matched to use after opening. For freshly roasted coffee that releases gas, a valve design can also be agreed; the valve allows gas to escape and is a separate design consideration. Please therefore indicate the need for a valve when choosing the material and the packaging process.
Branding on the silver base
The silver side-gusseted pouch can also be printed with your company logo and your own artwork. As the product cannot be seen through the opaque surface, the product name, variant and pack size markings play a prominent role. When laying out the artwork, the position of the gussets and the back seam must also be taken into account. The main messages are best placed on the central area visible on the filled pack, with a legible, consistent place for the detailed information across the different sizes.
For packing coffee or another aromatic product, please tell us the planned process and the intended use as well as the fill weight. On this basis we refine the pouch size, its barrier properties and any valve. We match the silver side-gusseted packaging to your filling workflow and to a shelf appearance that suits the product.
