Blue mushroom tray

Blue tray, typically used for packing mushrooms

Full description

The blue mushroom tray is a thin-walled tray designed for packing lightweight products, typically used for fresh mushrooms. The rigid packaging component helps to place and handle the portion neatly, while the blue colour gives the packs a uniform appearance. This tray is mainly suited to packing with stretch film. Its flange is not sealable, so the closing process must be designed according to the requirements of overwrapping.

Designed for lightweight products

The thin wall and lightweight design determine what contents the tray is suitable for. With mushrooms, not only the portion weight but also the size, position and fragility of the caps matter. Filling should be arranged so that the product is not squeezed together and does not overload the tray wall during handling. A trial with the actual portion shows how much space is needed for neat packing. The usability of the tray must also be checked when the filled pack is lifted and loaded.

A pack closed with stretch film

No lidding film can be sealed onto the flange of the mushroom tray. The pack is typically formed by stretch film wrapped around the tray, which holds the product in place and keeps the portion together. The width and stretchability of the film and the machine settings must be chosen together with the tray size. Excessive tension can deform the thin wall or press on the contents. With proper wrapping, the pack stays neat while the shape and delicate surface of the mushrooms are also taken into account.

Characteristics of fresh produce

When packing fresh mushrooms, moisture, temperature and gas exchange between the pack and its environment all influence the condition of the product. The film must therefore be chosen for the entire storage and sales process. The tray alone does not determine the shelf life of the finished pack. Only by coordinating filling, chilling, wrapping and transport can the pack be matched to the product. When checking the final pack, it is advisable to watch the appearance of the mushrooms and the build-up of moisture under the film.

A uniform look on the counter

The blue tray provides an easily recognisable base for different mushroom packs. The label on the film should be designed so that part of the product remains visible and the data can be read on the counter. The size of the transport crate and the arrangement of the packs affect stackability. The weight of the upper packs is best managed with suitable outer packaging, so that it does not rest on the mushrooms or the thin tray wall. The pack can thus be handled consistently from the packing station to sale.

To choose the blue mushroom tray, please tell us the planned portion, the size of the product and the wrapping process used. At Kollár Pakk we help you match the tray and the stretch film on this basis. The aim is a pack in which fresh mushrooms can be placed neatly and daily packing and transport tasks can be organised thoughtfully.
