Breathable stand-up press-to-close pouch

The breathable stand-up press-to-close pouch can be designed for packing washed, peeled or cut vegetables and fruit. The product is clearly visible through its transparent surface, and the stand-up design allows upright display. With this packaging, the gas permeability of the film must be matched to the respiration of the fresh produce. The right choice is therefore determined by the type of vegetable or fruit, how it has been processed and its storage temperature together.

Matched to the respiration of fresh produce

Harvested vegetables and fruit continue to respire after packing. The task of the breathable film is to play its part in the gas exchange chosen for the product. Conditions may differ for whole and cut produce, and for different fill weights. The pack size, the free internal space and the temperature also affect the balance. When choosing the pouch, a trial with the real fill and the planned storage therefore provides a useful basis for the decision. If the preparation of the product or the composition of a mix changes, it is worth checking the pouch used with the new fill as well. This helps refine the conditions needed for the different pack sizes.

A transparent pack for retail

In the transparent pouch the customer can see the size of the pieces and the appearance of the product directly. Filled with the right quantity, the stand-up format helps create a tidy shelf display. It is important that the fill does not press against the top seal and that the area around the zip remains free. With delicate produce that bruises easily, the way it is placed in the pouch and the arrangement of the outer packaging are also part of the planning, because film selection alone does not solve mechanical loads.

A resealable opening for repeated use

The advantage of the press-to-close zip comes into play when the consumer takes product out of the pack on several occasions. The opening can be closed again, but opening the pack changes the conditions inside it. It is therefore worth clearly stating in the customer information how the product should be stored and used after opening. The pouch must be integrated into the chilling and hygiene process prescribed for the product; the breathable material does not replace consistent compliance with these.

Custom size and clearly legible labelling
