The Multiform A3 semi-automatic tray sealer is worth considering for sealing larger trays of up to 370 × 230 mm with lidding film. Automatic film feed and sealing are combined with programmable operation. The machine is worth taking into account if pack width and correct placement of the lidding material are more important selection criteria than a large tray depth.

Larger area, maximum depth of 100 mm

The maximum tray depth is 100 mm, the film width can be up to 380 mm and the reel diameter up to 200 mm. When checking the tray size, the shape of the flange and its support in the tool must also be taken into account. The larger lidding film must be guided evenly to the sealing point so that the entire flange remains covered. The fill level of the product must be set so that the goods do not prevent the film from lying flat. It is advisable to check the match between tray and tool with a sample.

Cross-cutting and the edge of the finished pack

The Multiform A3 has a cross-cutting knife and does not trim around the tray outline. The film overhang on both sides is determined by the chosen reel width. It is therefore advisable to plan the pack appearance when selecting the material. Even with a wider tray, the sealing area needs sufficient coverage, while the overhanging film should not make the finished pack harder to handle. During the trial, besides the continuity of the seal, peelability and placing trays side by side can also be examined.

Nine programmes, adjustable sealing

Nine programme settings can be stored on the digital control panel, and the sealing surface temperature is adjustable between 0 and 200 °C. The working temperature must be chosen according to the tray and film materials and then checked with a test seal. Automatic film feed and sealing work with a tray prepared by the operator, so flange cleanliness is important with every programme. It is worth assigning the exact lidding film type and the tray identifier to each proven parameter set. When switching to a different material combination, check the result of the previous programme again.

Stable workstation and regular cleaning

The machine measures 460 × 510 × 555 mm, weighs 38 kg and runs on a 230 V supply. It has a stainless steel and anodised aluminium housing and a PTFE-coated aluminium tool. The work surface must safely accommodate both the machine and the handling of larger trays. Free access must be left for changing the film reel and reaching the parts to be cleaned. The cleaning method must be adapted to the surfaces and the coating. When filling trays, preventing product from reaching the flange helps the sealing process start under consistent conditions.
