Full description
The hot-fill vacuum pouch is designed for production processes in which the product is packed while still hot. When choosing the pouch in such cases, the filling temperature, the cooling process and subsequent storage all count together. The heat-resistant version offers a solution tailored to hot filling, while the flat pouch format allows predefined portions to be formed.
Heat-resistant design for hot filling
This version is made from a 90 micron, seven-layer co-extruded material. We offer it for hot filling, low-temperature heat treatment, and vacuum and modified atmosphere packaging. We select the appropriate application based on the specific product and technology: in addition to the momentary filling temperature, it also matters how long the pouch is in contact with the hot contents. Prolonged heat load and a short hot-filling phase represent different stresses.
Liquid and portioned products
When packing soups, fruit juices and similar products that require hot filling, it is particularly important to coordinate portioning and sealing. Sufficient internal space is needed for the fill quantity, and the upper part of the pouch must be left free for sealing. The contents must not get into the seal area. The handling of the finished pack is determined by the movement of the liquid, the size of the pouch and the outer transit packaging used, so it is worth checking the design with a production trial.
Coordinating filling and vacuuming
When a hot product is vacuumed, the drop in pressure affects the behaviour of the liquid, so the suitability of the packaging machine and the process must be checked in advance. A chamber vacuum machine solution can be chosen for the pouch, but the programme must be adjusted to the temperature and composition of the product. It is advisable to check the seal quality on the hot packs and again after cooling. The heat resistance of the packaging material alone does not determine the heat treatment or preservation process of the food.
Pack sizes and identification
The three-side sealed, pillow-style pouch suits portionable packs that are typically stored lying flat. It has no zip closure, so the pack size should be matched to the intended unit of opening and use. Its transparent surface makes the contents visible, and with custom artwork the brand and product marking can also be displayed on it. In the print design, we take into account the shape the pack takes on during filling and cooling. Supporting a pack filled with hot product may also be important after sealing. When designing the storage compartment, room must be left for the chosen cooling process, and the pouches must be arranged so that handling does not stress the still-warm seal.
For a recommendation of the right hot-fill pouch, please send us the name of the contents, the filling temperature, the duration of the heat load, the portion weight and the details of the machine used for sealing. Based on this, we will agree on the pouch size and the conditions of the necessary trial.
